Berkeley College Need Based Grants for International Students

Berkeley College Need Based Grants awards are determined after all federal grants, state grants, state scholarships, Berkeley College grants and scholarships (not need-based), outside resources (such as private scholarships, VA benefits other than Post-9/11 GI bill, tuition reimbursement, etc.), and direct subsidized loans have been applied.

Scholars interested in applying for federal grants, state grants, and state scholarships must complete their applications, which begin with filing the Free Application for Federal Aid (FAFSA) by the mandated deadlines.

Also, applicants who elect not to borrow direct subsidized loans may still qualify for and receive need-based aid. Should students decide to borrow direct subsidized loans, such amounts will be applied before the Berkeley College Need Based grant award is determined. Berkeley College grants and scholarships are specified below.

All offers of financial aid are calculated. In addition, we will be using the information you provided on the FAFSA before any review. You may also have needed items that the U.S. Department of Education (ED) wants us to settle with you, and/or you might be selected for a process called verification.

In addition, we are needed to perform verification or, at minimum, check for contradicting information before we can regard your awards as final. If the data that you entered on the FAFSA was wrong and/or if we cannot settle the items needed by ED, your aid can change dramatically. In some cases, it may be lost completely.

About Berkeley Prize

The International Berkeley Undergraduate Prize for Architectural Design Excellence (BERKELEY PRIZE) was established and continues to be led by Raymond Lifchez, Professor of Architecture and City & Regional Planning at the University of California, Berkeley College of Environmental Design (CED), through the effect of a great gift to the CED’s Department of Architecture by the late Judith Lee Stronach.

Now celebrating twenty years of existence, the BERKELEY PRIZE has had over 2100 undergraduate architecture students partake from 69 countries and has presented 131 awards to 126 student winners.

Moreover, the first year of the PRIZE (1998-99) was a design competition restricted to undergraduate students in two esteemed San Francisco Bay Area colleges: CED in Berkeley (opened 1959, with antecedents to 1905); and the Architecture Division of the, then, California College of Art and Crafts in San Francisco (opened in 1984, with antecedents to 1907).

Ray thought that it would be useful to encourage a sister relationship with another school of architecture that because of its proximity would allow for the relations of students and faculty.

Hence to start this potential relationship, the BERKELEY PRIZE was started. The competition topic was the Architect Meets the Nursing Home.
